And remember that even using cloth nappies only during weekends is good for the skin of your child and for the environment!
CULLA DI TEBY nappies are 100% made in Italy; they are projected, realized, tested and marketed in Italy.
We decided to have the manufacture in Italy in order to prefer the quality of the product, work and environment. Thanks to the current strict quality laws in our country and to the choice of using certified fabrics you will be always sure of buying a product that is safe for the skin of your baby; you will be sure that Italian artisans producing our nappies are qualified and competent and they have working conditions that in other countries do not even exist; and more, our nappies should do only few kilometres to arrive to the changing table of your nursery, producing in this way the less Co2 as possible.
Oeko Tex represents an international control system testing fabrics in order to exclude the presence of toxic substances and to verify that the product is safe for the wearer’s health. The textiles used to produce CULLA DI TEBY nappies are in Class 1, the highest in quality standards because thought for textile products destined to children up to three years old.
We chose to produce our pants in three sizes to warrant the perfect wearability of the nappy, to avoid having newborns wearing too large nappies or bigger children too little ones.
The size depends from the weight of the baby.
- Small size pants 2,5 – 5 kg, it is perfect for newborns.
- Medium size pants 5 – 11 kg, to be used for infants born already around 4 kg or for children between 3 and 14 months about.
- Large size pants 9 – 15 kg, to be used between 10 and 30 months about, most children will leave the diaper with this size.
- XL size 12 + kg, to be used for children over the 10 months and they have of 80 percentile of increase; or older than 24-30 months who need to use a washable diaper.
The sizes division based on the baby’s weight is only an indication; every mum perfectly knows the body size of her own child.
CULLA DI TEBY pants have been designed to be very soft and adaptable to children’s different body sizes. The division based on the weight will help you in the choice but every mother perfectly knows the body size of her baby and can imagine that for tall and slim babies, pants will be a bit larger and, instead, for chubbier babies maybe it will be necessary a more comfortable size.
Our washable absorbent pads come in two sizes: Small for Small size pants and Large to be used both with Medium, Large and XL size pants.
Swim inserts and disposable absorbent pads only come in one size.
Sure! You can use CULLA DI TEBY cloth nappies outside home and on holyday. For your daily walks it will be enough to take with you some washable absorbent pads for the change and when it is dirty just put it in your wet bag; when you will come back home it will be enough to put it with the other used absorbent pads waiting for the laundry. If you prefer you can use our disposable absorbent pads, they are perfect for your holydays when you cannot use the washing machine! And if you go to the seaside… do not forget our Swim inserts!
Let the absorbent slip inside the cradle, once inserted pull the shorter extremities to have it perfectly “blocked” in the cradle, then, with one hand, press it on the bottom of the cradle and, with the other, pull upward the barriers around the thighs. Make a try, if the absorbent pad has been accurately placed in, when lifting and shaking gently the nappy, the insert must not move.
To place in Swim absorbent pad in Small size pants, fold one side giving it a shape that fits the size of the cradle. The disposable absorbent pad has only one size so it is right it is thicker in Small size pants and a bit looser in Medium, Large and XL size pants.
To correctly attach the cradle to pants it will be enough that you follow the colour of buttons. To detach it, our suggestion is to be careful and detach buttons handling them carefully using your fingertips without pulling the fabric. Do not grab and pull directly the textile, it could be damaged.
10. How often have I to change the nappy? Will I have to do it more often comparing with a traditional disposable nappy?
All nappies, both traditional disposable diapers and cloth nappies should be changed approximately every 3 hours. With CULLA DI TEBY cloth nappies you can change your baby every 2 – 4 hours. You will not have to double the number of changes because normally 1 – 2 more per day are enough. Newborns feeding to the breast evacuate more often but as long as your baby will grow you will have to change him less often.
11. What are the differences between CULLA DI TEBY cloth nappies and the other brands on the market?
There are many features making unique CULLA DI TEBY nappies, these are just some of those:
- Pants are soft and transpiring because they are made of cotton.
- The four sizes allows you to use them from the birth of the baby until the moment of the potty
- We made the part in PUL as small as possible.
- The parts around the thighs and around the waist are extremely soft and adaptable to the movements of the baby.
- There are neither buttons touching the skin nor rubber bands touching the baby’s waist.
- It is a hybrid nappy, namely, it transforms according to your needs.
- The back latch leaves free the baby’s tummy.
- They are easy to be worn because they do not require to be folded in a particular way.
- Easy to be washed and quickly drying because made using transpiring textiles.
- Manufactured using certified fabrics.
- … And above all… they are produced in Italy!
If pants are not soiled you can just detach the cradle and rinse it with a jet of water and a bit of soap.
All parts of Teby nappies are washable at 40° using the synthetic cycle of your washing machine (because it is more delicate with cotton), the washable absorbent pad up to 60°, but remember that washing at 40° is enough.
Last, please do not use cleaning or antibacterial products containing alcohol, solvents, brighteners or abrasive detergents (as bleach, for example) and softener, they can damage seriously Teby nappies, in particular the cradle. Run the spin cycle at a maximum speed of 1000 rpm.
Choose ecological soaps; look for the right amount to be used by checking the manufacturer instructions. If you would, you could use from time to time a spoon of bicarbonate to raise your soap washing power; if you want to whiten only the absorbent pads we suggest you to use the percarbonate. Every month wash once only the absorbent pads at 60°.
You can put nappies that are dirty of pee only and those pre-processed in a plastic bin with a lid but remember not to close it hermetically. We suggest plastic because it is easier to be cleaned and this should be done every time you will empty the content. A fantastic solution to eliminate bad smells is to prepare a spray bottle with a solution of water, bicarbonate and white vinegar (there will be a little bubbling reaction), spray the solution on the inside of your bin, let it work and then, after one hour, rinse with water. When the bin is empty leave it opened and let air circulate inside.
Teby nappies have been thought to dry quickly. The more ecological and safer way to dry them is surely to lay them in the sun and in the open air. But, when the weather is bad, you can put absorbent pads and nappies in the dryer machine not using too much heat (use the delicate or synthetic cycle). But always remember to detach the cradle because it does not go into the dryer machine! And what if I have no dryer machine? Do not worry, detach the cradle and place the absorbent pads and the external nappies near the heater. If you can hang them above a radiator, the problem has been solved! They will dry very rapidly and it will not be even necessary to turn on the dryer machine!
If your little one has made some poo, remove most of it by throwing it down the toilet; then with the help of a jet of cold water (use always cold water to pre-process!) quickly rinse and rub a bar of soap for washing directly on the absorbent pad, put it in the nappy bin until the moment of the laundry (we recommend washing them at most every two days). We suggest you to buy bars of pure soap for washing, preferring brands you can find in supermarkets of biological products.
No, you can wash everything at the same time under the condition you have removed most of the poo from the nappy. In this way you will optimize your laundries!
Usually, rings appear when pee has dried away, this because they are not often washed or because they are not pre-processed when there is some poo. But if you have followed all our washing suggestions, you can try these solutions:
When you only wash the absorbent pads try to use the percarbonate or put in a little basin full of cold water a bit of AMUCHINA solution, the one you use to sanitize your pacifiers, plunge absorbent pads for a couple of hours (do not do this operation with the cradle or pants) and then do your laundry as usual or use a bit of gentle bleach. But remember that the use of bleach and AMUCHINA causes an accelerated ageing of textiles, so do these operations just a few times.
Check if you have followed all our instructions for washing and stocking them.
Remember that the urine of every baby has a particular smell depending on what he ate, on hot or cold temperatures, on what medicines he is taking, on teeth coming out or even when a cold is coming. You will learn to understand these changes on instinct! But if after an accurate washing there is still a bad smell, try to use these tips: be sure you are using enough soap.
Put a spoonful of bicarbonate in the drum of the washing machine or use some percarbonate that while brightening gives back oxygen to fabrics. Have an intensive rinse. Dry them always in the sun or, at least, in a place where air can circulate well. If you dry them in the dryer machine, when the cycle is finished, take immediately the laundry out of it and let it stay in the open air for some hours. If this is not enough, try to sanitize your nappies, have a look to the following topic.
When using cloth nappies it can happen to have sometimes some little leakages but if the nappy was correctly worn following our instructions, the baby has just been changed and the absorbent pad chosen is correct, it is necessary to check the cradle has not been damaged by some internal fabric consumption, if so, it will be necessary to substitute it.
If the problem is not in the cradle, you have to check the absorbent pads absorbency.
To verify it, it will be enough to let flow a trickle of water on the surface of the absorbent pad, even just a bit is enough. If the water does not penetrate in textiles but forms pearls on their surface, this means that the insert got waxed and lost its absorbency power. This can happen because of different reasons: creams, softeners, too much soap or the water is too hard. Don’t worry, you could “reactivate” your absorbent pads following these instructions:
Do a washing cycle at 60° using just a little soap and then two more with no soap at all.
If in your house the water is very hard, you can use a glass of white vinegar in the drum of the washing machine, or if you can use a water softener, this will allow you, among the other things, to use less soap and have your linen always soft!
Another tip is to place the diaper slightly towards the belly button for little boys (covering in that way the pee-pee) and towards the back for girls… Always remember to pull outside the little internal barriers.
It is normal that textile around the waist became a little wrinkled, you will see that when worn folds will smooth.
Always remember to close Velcro when you wash your nappies and from time to time, using a comb, remove possible hairs from the Velcro itself.

FAQ - Hygiene
In case of infections and liquid poo (due to a form of diarrhoea and not to the fact the baby is feeding to the breast, in this case it is normal that poo is slightly liquid), our advice is, just for those few days, to use our pants together with CULLA DI TEBY disposable inserts. If you want to sanitize your cloth nappies, take your washable inserts and do one of this operations (but not all together!):
Put a bit of Amuchina solution (the product you use to sterilize your pacifiers) in a little basin full of water, immerse the absorbent pads there for a couple of hours and then wash them in the washing machine as usual (do not do this operation with the cradle and pants).
- Use a bit of gentle bleach during the washing, follow the manufacturer instructions.
- Wash at 95°
- Iron your absorbent pads but only on the bamboo side.
- Let boil your absorbent pads for 20 minutes in a pot of boiling water.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL THESE OPERATIONS SHOULD BE DONE ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY ON THE ABSORBENT PADS AND NEVER ON PANTS AND CRADLES. THESE OPERATIONS cause an accelerated ageing of textiles; we suggest you not to do them frequently.
You will see that by using cloth nappies your baby will have far fewer skin rashes. But sometimes it will be necessary to use some cream, in that case use a veil of nappy liner or pre-process the ‘creamed’ nappy as you would do with poo. Creams tend to wax textiles and to block their absorbency, if it happens have a look to the section “how to give back absorbency”.
If the skin of your baby’s butt has become red it is better to use cloth nappies because in those cases a fabric is the best thing to be put in contact with the skin of your child. Every skin “likes” different textiles, it is for this reason that with one Teby absorbent pad you can choose between two solutions: the bamboo micro sponge, that is a natural fabric, and the micro fleece, that gives a “dry effect”. Moreover, changing often the nappy will considerably lessen problems due to dermatitis.
By using CULLA DI TEBY cloth nappies, the skin of your baby will be touched by a soft jersey made of cotton, by the textile part of the PUL and by the soft little barriers. With the washable inserts, your baby will touch the bamboo micro sponge or the micro fleece, both Oeko Tex standard 100 class I certified fabrics.
